The Summer Transition Grant program provides financial assistance to eligible students attending eligible research-based high school-to-college summer developmental transition programs offered by Minnesota colleges and universities in the summer between high school graduation and the freshman year of postsecondary education. The purpose of summer transition programs is to develop the skills and abilities necessary to be ready for college-level coursework when the student enrolls in a postsecondary degree, diploma or certificate program. Programs must address the academic skills identified as needing improvement by a college readiness assessment completed by the student. Both campus program and financial aid administrators are responsible for the administration of the program. The program was created during the 2009 legislative session and first implemented at six different campuses during the summer of 2010. Currently, the program is funded at $1 million dollars per fiscal year.Program OverviewStudents apply for a grant by completing the online application or by submitting a paper application to the college offering the summer transition program. Eligible institutions include all private and public colleges and universities in Minnesota that have summer transition programs approved by the Office of Higher Education.
