As of June 2009 Willmar has a health clinic for migrant workers. The name of the clinic is Migrant Health Services, Inc and was originally founded in 1973. The clinic meets the needs of North Dakota and Minnesota agricultural workers. The clinic admits all those who have at least one hour of labor in the past 24 months.
This service is helpful for uninsured people who need to been seen by a physician. The clinic also provides referrals to other affiliated clinics which offer interpreters if needed. The process is quite easy; simply visit one of the clinics and register. Patients must pay $8 to been seen by a doctor and the organization offers a $100 credit and an additional $62.50 credit if persons wish to run some other medical exams. Patients must pay Migrant Health Services for the remaining balance. Other free exams offered at Migrant Health Services include blood work, urine samples, and blood glucose testing. If medications are prescribed and their cost exceeds $12 the clinic will cover up to $100 on a monthly basis. Patients must pay $10 a month to receive this credit. For dental checkups patients have to pay $15 for visits and the clinic offers a credit of up to $ 125 a year. The only recommendation is that patients follow thru with scheduled appointments. If for any reason a person is unable to make it to an appointment it is crucial that it be canceled in order to avoid any penalties. Nurses from this clinic follow up with patients to ensure that they understood the medical doctor’s recommendations and to find out if the patient’s health has improved or worsened. On February 01, 2010 Migrant Health Services requests that all persons already registered to visit the clinic to re-register. This requirement expedites the process for the following doctor’s visit. For more information people may call 320-214-7286 or visit the office located on 130 SE Willmar, MN 56201. If patients wish to speak to a Spanish speaking representative please ask for María Hernandez or Thare Iliff. The hours of operation are from 8am -12pm and 1pm-4:30pm, Monday thru Friday.
